WESTVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Destruction caused by a fire wasn’t limited to what can be seen on the outside. The fire happened on Route 1, Monday evening.

Crews worked for hours to put it out. No one was hurt. All the buildings are connected, so there might be more damage than can be seen.

The fire chief says the buildings are old which means the building in front of the apartments might come down too. The owner of the apartment building is tearing down what remains.

The insurance company is still collecting information one what will happen from there.

The mayor says the building in front of the apartments is a small computer business. If it’s found to be structurally unsafe, that building will have to be torn down as well.

Luckily, the owner is considered “energetic” and will replace it if he has to. He says he has faith he’ll be able to do something good for the community and himself.

It’s not known when the insurance company will decide what to do next.
