DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — After a jail put out a call for dictionaries to help inmates in their college courses, one state senator answered.
Scott Bennett and his staff asked supporters to help and the response was great. They were able to collect several boxes of dictionaries for students in DACC’s Department of Corrections program.
Bennett says sometimes programs like this are misunderstood, but it’s important to remember the bigger picture.
Program coordinators say they’re asking for dictionaries, thesauruses and grammar books to help inmates develop literacy skills.
