Decatur Public Schools discusses 2nd quarter learning plans

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Decatur Public Schools’ Board of Education met Tuesday night to review the district’s budget, enrollment numbers and plans for the 2nd quarter.

The school district is currently fully remote, and announced late last week the 2nd quarter would begin remotely as well. District officials said students will remain virtual through November 13. A decision on whether to return to hybrid learning for the second half of the quarter will be made by October 30.

Board members also voted 6-0 with one absence to approve the 2020-2021 budget. Of note, it reduced transportation funding by roughly $1.2 million because no services are currently being provided.

The school district provided a breakdown of enrollment numbers across its schools as well. Overall, the district is down 241 students compared to the 2019-2020 school year.
