CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — If you forgot to file taxes, time is running out to meet the deadline. Taxes are due April 15, but there are some things you can do now to make sure you get them in on time.

A tax expert who volunteers for AARP’s free tax service says make sure you have all of your tax documents in one place, try to do calculations correctly, and on the Illinois form, don’t forget to take the real estate tax credit if you pay real estate taxes.

You can still ask for an extension, but it must be requested no later than midnight April 15.
