ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Congressman Rodney Davis (R) says he didn’t send his now-fired campaign staffer to harass his opponent.

Levi Lovell was arrested after a fight broke out at a campaign fundraiser for Betsy Dirksen-Londrigan.

Davis says he had nothing to do with it. Davis says Lovell’s actions weren’t under his orders, or anyone else’s in his campaign.

The police report specifically states Lovell says he was a field director for the congressman. He told police he was filing Dirksen-Londrigan, calling it dirty politics.

Davis called and apologized to Dirksen-Londrigan. He’s previously talked about civility in politics.

Davis was in Champaign Wednesday because he was donating blood. He donates every year, but Wednesday marks one year since the congressional baseball attack in Washington D.C.

He says blood donations are the reason some of his fellow congressmen are alive.
