UPDATE (11:25AM 1/25/22) — Champaign Police said they have identified the offender.
Officers included description of race in their original news release. When we asked law enforcement if this could be similar to other incidents we’ve seen nationwide that seem to target Asian-Americans, officers said they would not comment on that because this is an active investigation.
More information will be updated when it becomes available.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Charges were changed after further information given by Champaign Police.
