Crews begin asbestos removal at Central

Local News

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Crews are working right now to get rid of asbestos from inside Central High School. It’s part of the huge renovation project.

Workers are in the basement under the gym. School leaders say there’s no danger to students. The work is being done safely.

This particular project takes up a large part of the construction price tag of $87 million, but it will add 100,000 square feet to the building.

The district will be hosting a community info night to fill people in on the Edison Middle School project and get feedback. It’s May 8, 5:30 – 7 pm, at Edison.
