GIBSON CITY, Ill. (WCIA) — Crews battled flames bursting out of a garage in Gibson City Wednesday night.
It happened near North West Street and West 10th. We’re told the fire is now out.
The garage is a complete loss as the fire chief tells us, but the home only had some fire damage to a back porch and a little smoke and water damage.
The fire was out in just about an hour.
At one point the flames were so big they could be seen from a distance.
Crews from Elliot also came to help, totaling around 25 firefighters.
The fire chief says they’re not sure on a cause of the fire right now but they have an idea.
“The thought is possibly the lawnmower inside may have caused it. We don’t suspect anything out to the ordinary here at this point that’s where we’re heading with it now but it’s not anything official,” Bruce Kallal.
He says they will still look into what caused it, but will not be sending the case to the state fire marshal’s office.
There was a cat in the house during the fire but because of the minimal damage, they were able to get in and save it.
