DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The city council will vote on a very expensive investment Tuesday night.

Members could approve almost $500,000 to refurbish a firetruck. It would be much cheaper to refurbish the engine for $440,000 rather than buy new for $1.3 million.

The truck at issue is an aerial truck. Routine maintenance in January determined there were more issues with it.

Public Works Deputy Director Ray Garcia says, to keep it up to standards, they need to revise controls, fix suspension issues, go over the ladder and much more. He says this kind of truck is vital to the city.

Refurbishing it will give it another 15-years on the front line. Garcia says, he believes it’s in the best interest of the city council to approve the refurbishment.
