DECATUR,Ill. (WCIA)– Kelli Runyon has been trying to fill the same position for months. She works for Decatur Industrial Electric.”The skilled positions definitely are harder to fill,” said Runyon. Staffing agencies in Champaign, Springfield, and Danville are dealing with the same problem. She thinks there are several reasons for the need. “A lot of the applicants for skilled positions such as motor windists and manual machinists are definitely in an older category. That generation is starting to leave the workforce,” said Runyon.
Lee Best is the owner of Express Employment Professionals. He saw a trend starting about a year ago. A decline in the number of applicants for job openings, and I think that’s largely due to the fact that so many job opportunities have been available that many have been filled,” said Best. Best has about 40 positions open. That’s double what they usually have this time of year.
Workforce Investment Solutions works with applicants to build resumes, give interview skills, and on the job training. “They’re much more able to match what the employer is looking for and therefore reduces the time for the employer in their recruiting process,” said Larry Peterson.
