Community joins forces to fight violence

Local News

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — People are talking about ways to make a change and fight violence in their backyard, but also around the world.

The event is called A Mission to Change the Dynamic of Our Fallen Youth. It’s centered around stopping violence.

Seven people are slated to speak. Each is concerned with what’s happening in the community and they want to connect with people who attend and let them know how to make a difference.

One man who will speak says he has to address incidents of violence from the past few days. They say it takes everyone’s involvement ot make a difference: help from the police, the mayor and the community.

Everyone needs to stand up against violence to change the direction the city is going. Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr., says he will not be at the event Saturday.

Two people were shot in Danville less than 24-hours apart. One man was killed and another was sent to the hospital and is in critical condition. Police are still looking for those responsible.
