URBANA, Ill (WCIA)– Habitat for Humanity is known for building houses for those in need, but they’re adding to their good deeds.
The group will be starting a community garden on Hill Street near Romine in Urbana.
It is in a neighborhood they have already dig into with a habitat house just down the street.
They are asking for a little help from the community.
Donation of supplies to get the garden going, and for painted rocks to help decorate.
They say this area, in particular, is in dire need.
“This is defiantly what we consider a food desert. There’s really not anywhere near here that you can get fresh produce. If you have a car you can drive miles away to a store but around here there’s not access to that,” says Lauren Gramly.
They’re hoping to be up and growing by the spring.
