Community college considers police force

Local News

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Richland Community College may be making some changes to safety and security. School employees are considering starting a police department.

Richland’s Chief of Public Safety Dean Hazen says he wants officers on campus who will be better equipped to deal with a possible mental health crisis, drug overdose or any type of violence.

Hazen says they are being proactive to make sure students stay safe. The Board of Trustees will vote on whether or not to move forward with the idea in September.
