EASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY, Ill (WCIA)– A student at Eastern Illinois University got the chance of a lifetime last month.
She represented her school at one of the most exclusive events of the year, new york fashion week.
She was handpicked out of 17 students to go to the Big Apple.
Hannah Griglione is a senior studying fashion and business.
When offered the opportunity to attend fashion week she jumped at it.
Tucked away in the Doudna Fine Arts Center, Hannah Griglione got ready to go on a trip she never thought she’d take.
When Griglione got to college, she didn’t know she would study fashion.
But says her love for it started early.
“I don’t know when I decided but when I did there was no going back. I’ve always been obsessed with fashion and that’s probably because my mom has been talking me shopping since I was a newborn,” Griglione says.
She competed against 16 of her classmates for the chance to go to fashion week, submitting papers and doing interviews and when she found out she was chosen, she says she couldn’t believe it.
“I was so excited I had a rush of emotion I was like I think I have tears in my eyes right now,” she says.
While in new york, she learned more than she thought she would.
“We got to see each side of fashion. So yeah we got to see the shows and that was my favorite part but we also got to see what it’s like in corporate what it’s like in the design,” she tells us.
In her years as an EIU student, she says this has been the best part.
“I never thought I would have the opportunity to go to new york fashion week,” Groglione says.
Now, she’s more than sure fashion is her calling.
“It’s really reassured me that this is what I want to do with my life I loved every second of it,” she says.
Griglione is the first student from EIU to get to go to fashion week.
She says she hopes others will get this opportunity in the future.
