URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Recent national events regarding sexual harassment are hitting home. It’s gotten local government officials taking note.
The city council will take a look at an updated policy at its Monday night meeting. Council members say it’s after a requirement was put in place last month for all municipalities around the state to adopt a new one.
The city’s policy was last considered in 2011, but was established in 1992. One minor change is a clearer definition of how harassment is defined.
Mayor Diane Marlin says it was written well the first time and just has minor changes. It’s on the agenda as a resolution to be presented Monday then taken to council next week.
It will take effect immediately if approved. The city has about 270 employees. It’s an internal policy which applies to everyone working for the city.
