URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — City council members plan to team up with Champaign in an attempt to reduce gun violence with the Fresh Start program.
It would consist of 19 agencies, including law enforcement, city leaders and other groups. All hope to combat the issue together.
The goal is to have previous offenders stop committing crimes and, in return, receive community resources and services from the program.
Councilman Dean Hazen says he believes the program could be great for the community.
“Anytime we can work together collaboratively and bring the agencies together is a good thing because often the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.”
The council will vote on the proposal at its meeting next week.
