MONTICELLO, Ill. (WCIA) — In many cities, you get to decide who picks up your garbage, but that could be changing here.
The city council is moving forward with a plan to eliminate choice and allow only one garbage hauler in town. Officials say they’re responding to complaints residents have about how the current system works.
Bids are due to the city in September. The city administrator says it all comes down to what’s best for customers.
“The lowest, most responsible bidder,” City Manager Terry Summers said. “If things don’t pan out the way we’re hoping, and we don’t see much of a price reduction, we can always reject all bids and stay with the process we have in place today.”
Summers says he should be able to make a recommendation to the city council by October.
