MAHOMET, Ill. (WCIA) — Veterans Day came to Mahomet early over the weekend.

The Mahomet Christian Church held its annual ‘Living Flag’ celebration to honor veterans. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, people packed into the church to see the show.

Organizers say the goal of the presentation is to make veterans feel appreciated. “We just want to say ‘thank you.’ I grew up in the Vietnam era and they didn’t get a thank you much to speak of when they came home. I’ve always had that longing to say ‘thank you.’ We want to say ‘thank you’ to all our veterans,” said David Johnson, Program Head. Organizers hold the event early because the weekend of veterans day is so busy. They say they wanted to make sure as many performers and guests as possible could come.
