SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A man was arrested after a police chase involving a cab led to a crash. It happened about 1 am, Monday, near Stanford Avenue and Junction Circle.

Police tried to conduct a traffic stop on a cab seen speeding, but it failed to pull over and started driving recklessly.

At one point, the driver’s door opened and the woman driver fell onto the roadway. The officer stopped to provide medical assistance and the woman was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

A second police officer spotted the speeding cab and followed it until it crashed into a fence in the 1900-block of Holley Drive. Two people fled the vehicle on foot. A gun was found on the ground next to where the cab crashed.

Authorities established a perimeter and, with the help of a K-9 officer, found Deonte Hardin, 33, hiding in a broken down vehicle in the driveway of a home in the 1800-block of Brian Lane.

Hardin is charged with armed habitual criminal, vehicular hijacking, aggravated battery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated fleeing and eluding, no FOID card, driving on a suspended license and reckless driving.
