CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Minority and women owned businesses can soon earn certification through the city.
The Champaign Diversity Advancement Program starts next week.
This let’s larger contractors contact businesses directly for quotes when they’re bidding on projects.
The city has partnered with the group, first followers, to make this happen.
They say this is just one step in their commitment to show inclusion.
“We want to make sure we’re inclusive of everyone. We know that there have been opportunities that have not been awarded to minorities and women in the past and this is one of those opportunities to make sure that they are included,” says Community Relations Manager and Compliance Officer, Rachel Joy.
Businesses will need to RSVP for the event on Friday, December 28 at the City’s Office of Equity, Community and Human Rights at 217-403-8830. .
It’ll be at the city building from 8:30 A.M. to 3 P.M.
They plan to have more certification opportunities next year.
