UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Thursday, thousands of people flooded campus to move in new students. It marks the first day in town for freshmen and transfer students.
Gas stations and tow companies stayed busy. UI has more than 30,000 undergraduate students. More than a quarter of those students and their families were on campus.
UI Police were directing traffic and managing road closures while older students and UI workers helped students move in.
It’s an exciting time for students, but it can be hard for parents. Some moms and dads had tips for others in the same boat.
Campus is going to continue to be extremely busy this weekend. Saturday is move in day for returning students. Classes start Monday.
