UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Two bars are shutting down on the UI campus. Firehaus and Clybourne will close their doors in September.

New owners will be making high rise apartments for students. There may be hope of the bars reopening. The previous owner says he’s looking for a new location for the taverns.

He’s been working on it for months. He believes he might be close to closing on at least one location, but he’s not ready to discuss where it is.

Students say they’re upset Firehaus will be gone. The owner who sold Firehaus and Clybourne bought Kams with three other investors. They have not said what they plan to do with the bar.

Kams’ last owner had it for 27-years. He says he hopes the traditions don’t go away. He signed on the 1990s, taking control a full decade later. Meyer says he and his family have a lot of good memories there.
