Busy weekend for police

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Police stayed busy over the weekend.

Friday, a woman reported being robbed at gunpoint. It happened about 11 pm, in the area of Gilbert and Harrison streets.

The 25-year old victim told police she was walking when she was approached by a man with a gun who demanded her belongings. The suspect took several items.

The suspect could only be described as a male, black, with afro-style hair and mustache. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and white shorts. The woman was not hurt.

About 1 am, Saturday, in the 1200-block of Grant Street, officers responded to a shooting. A 24-year old man sustained gunshot wounds to his arm and leg.

He told police he was walking near English and Harmon streets when he heard multiple shots fired from an unknown location.

The victim ran from the area before realizing he’d been struck. He was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Sunday, about 6:50 am, the Danville Humane Society was broken into. Police say an employee reported someone had forced entry and stolen several undisclosed items.
