CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — An Urbana lawyer will no longer represent a man accused of leaving his baby to die in a field.
In 2016, Thomas Boitnott was sentenced to 20-years in prison. Police say he left his daughter to die in a bean field in 2015.
Tom Bruno was his attorney. In August, an appeals court granted Boitnott a retrial. They say the judge didn’t let Bruno make a closing argument.
Tuesday, Bruno withdrew as Boitnott’s attorney for the retrial. He says Boitnott will use a public defender to save money.
The pretrial is set for November 26.
