MT. ZION, Ill. (WCIA) — Macon County had its first “Bright Bulbs” holiday light competition this year.
On Tuesday night they announced the winners. Thirty one people decked out their homes with lights and decorations. Big prizes went to the top five contestants including round trip tickets with Cape Air and free pizza for a year at Papa John’s.
They were split into categories like most creative and brightest display. David Brix and his family won a $500 Visa gift card for getting the most votes in the “people’s choice award.” He says, “As soon as we get done with harvest we start putting up the lights. The enjoyment of seeing everybody’s faces is why we do it. Hearing kids laugh, dance, and sing while they’re watching them is everything to us.”
It took Brix a month to string more than 40,000 lights around his home. The competition was put on by Brinkoetter Realtors. They plan to continue it in the future.
