GRUNDY COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — After several tips on a 42-year old cold case fell through, the coroner decided to exhume the body.
The unidentified female was found in Morris, Ill., in 1976. The coroner says she was shot in the head. The death was ruled a homicide.
After several weeks of not being able to identify who she was and no leads in the case, the body was buried.
Earlier this year, the coroner released several images from sketch artists. They received several tips, but still could not identify her.
This week, the coroner decided to exhume the body and send some remains to a Texas lab to retrieve evidence. They hope to have those results within a year.
