PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood confirmed the bodies of Susan Brill de Ramirez and Antonio Ramirez Barron were found near Spoon River Tuesday night after an intense two-day search.
The bodies of the missing Princeville couple were believed to have been found around 4:30 p.m. near the Spoon River, near Illinois Route 78 in Peoria County just north of Laura.
Earlier in the day, 21-year-old Jose Ramirez was charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the death of Susan and Antonio, his parents.
Authorities said Ramirez allegedly pepper sprayed his father and then stabbed him in the stomach and the neck while the couple were asleep. He also allegedly pepper sprayed his mother, and stabbed her in the stomach then neck. Ramirez gave a second testimony saying he hit them with a baseball bat.
Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell said he believes Ramirez killed his parents early Friday.
The couple was initially reported missing Sunday night after police responded to a residential burglary and missing persons complaint. Asbell said foul play had initially been suspected.
Ramirez could face 20-60 years in prison.
