UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Food insecurity is a worldwide problem. Many came to Central Illinois to solve the problem.
The Rise Against Hunger hosted Universities Fighting World Hunger Summit the the U of I. Every year, it gives a student the leadership award for his or her efforts.
This year, it went to a PhD student from Washington State University who experienced hunger firsthand growing up in a Rwandan refugee camp.
“I’m the person to testify that because I’ve been there and I stay positive and I didn’t let my circumstances define me and here I am reaching the goals of my life,” says award recipient, Cedric Habiyaremye.
For those going to bed hungry, he says, never give up. The award will help support his mission of a zero-hunger Africa.
