MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Authorities are investigating an attempted traffic stop which led to a car chase and ended with a crash. It happened about 6:30 pm, Tuesday, in Decatur.

The attempted traffic stop was initiated near South Main Street and 1st Drive and the crash happened at Franklin and William streets.

It was determined someone in the car was wanted on a felony warrant. The driver fled the scene in his car, ran a red light and was hit by another vehicle.

When the suspect’s car came to a stop, the driver fled the scene on foot. He was eventually taken into custody and, after initially denying medical attention, was taken to the hospital after complaining of pain. His condition is not known.

Four people were in the suspect vehicle, including the subject of the felony warrant. All were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the other car was also taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Illinois State Police are in charge of the investigation. None of the names of those involved have been released.
