Armed felon requires SWAT response

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — One man faces charges for threatening a woman with a gun.

25-year old Jerry O’Neal was arrested about 10:15 pm, Monday, in the 2500-block of West Springfield Avenue.

SWAT officers were deployed to the scene when authorities learned O’Neal was threatening a woman with a firearm inside a private residence.

The woman and her children were able to physically escaped unharmed while O’Neal barricaded himself inside the residence with another male. The male victim was eventually allowed to leave unharmed.

After several hours and repeated attempts to talk with O’Neal, SWAT deployed pepper spray causing O’Neal to leave the home. He faces charges of domestic battery, unlawful use of a firearm by a felon and aggravated assault.
