SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Firefighters battled an apartment fire this morning that left several people without a place to stay.
Fire crews were dispatched to 2500 West Monroe around 4:30 am.
When firefighters arrived the found the building was on fire and they upgraded to a second alarm because of the size of the building and nearby structures.
West Monroe was shut down while crews put out the fire.
There were no injuries, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Red Cross is assisting several occupants who were displaced.
