Annexation likely for city outskirts

Local News

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Property owners on the edge of town are one step closer to being annexed into the city.

Monday night, city council members discussed annexation during their study session, and they plan to move forward. The idea is to annex more than 400 properties to help offset the loss of taxes from people moving out of the city.

Those buildings either already use the city’s water system or are completely surrounded by city limits. Letters about annexation are being sent to property owners.

If the plan goes through, owners who don’t sign the agreement will have their water service terminated.  The city council expects to vote on the first annexation agreement at its next meeting in May.
