CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Bond is set at $150,000 for one man after telling police he removed his electronic ankle bracelet and left town.

Shamario Brown was released from prison and given the device to wear at home. But, he took it off and was on the run for more than a week.

He’s one of several men authorities say have gang ties in the area. He was on parole for his sentence of aggravated battery to a peace officer and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

He was given the bracelet in August, but October 12, the Department of Corrections got an alert showing Brown had unplugged the monitoring box and left. Police weren’t able to find him until Monday.

He’d run to Plano to his girlfriend’s house. Brown could face 2 – 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

His preliminary hearing is set for next month. If he doesn’t post his bond Tuesday, he can have another bail hearing Wednesday.
