DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Valentine’s Day is for lovers, but it can also be for loved ones.
Those caring for senior citizens in nursing homes hope to bring the love for their residents.
Neighbor Love needs volunteers to help deliver gift bags to residents. Each gift bag includes lip balm, socks, a carnation, piece of fruit, handmade Valentine’s card, stuffed toy, and large print puzzle book.
The group’s goal is to deliver 120 gift bags. The non-profit organization is based outside Atlanta, Ga., and was created by a Danville native.
It hosts parties for Valentine’s, Father’s, Mother’s days and Christmas parties for seniors. It’s been hosting parties at Danville Care Center since Christmas 2013.
“Expanding our mission beyond the greater Atlanta area has always been the goal of Neighbor Love and it is an honor to bring joy to seniors in my home town of Danville, Illinois,” explains Tom Sargeant, executive director and founder of Neighbor Love.
Sargeant is returning to the area for the event. The deadline to adopt a senior is February 13.
