NATIONAL (WCIA) — An investigation by USA Today Network uncovered disturbing patters of police rising through the ranks despite being convicted of crimes and accused of misconduct, including some in Central Illinois.
The investigation found 32 people who became police chiefs or sheriff’s and 85,000 hired as officers despite findings of serious misconduct, usually at another department.
Some say police departments aren’t doing thorough enough background checks since they’re in desperate need of officers.
