DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A 22-year-old man was arrested Monday morning in connection with a shooting. He was already in court and faces several charges.

The shooting happened near the corner of Johns Avenue and Webster street just after 1AM.

A 33-year-old man, two 29-year-old women, and a 22-year-old woman were all shot. Police say they all went to the hospital.

Officers in the area heard the shots and found nearly a hundred people gathered for a block party there.

They say they pulled the 22-year-old suspect over. He got out and ran away, but police caught him.

A neighbor told WCIA that the block party started out as a family event during the day, but turned bad once in got dark.

“Why? What was all that for? Everything was going good. We had the blow house out here for all the kids,” says Demisi Tyler. “When it got dark [out]…that’s when it went downhill.”

Tyler says bullets went through his car and mom’s house. He also says the block is mainly home to elderly people, and situations like this are not common there.

Police have not yet released any other information.
