CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A 25-year police force veteran is retiring.
Officer Michael Alvis was sworn in April 11, 1994 and ends his career Thursday.
“Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with many exemplary law enforcement professionals to help strengthen our community,” said Alvis. “This has been a fulfilling journey, and while I’m looking forward to retirement, I am walking away proudly of the friends I made, the career I led and the community I served.”
Alvis served as a field training officer, sniper, firearms cadre and master firearms instructor as well as on the Special Weapons and Tactics and Mobile Field Force units.
Alvis is also a veteran of the Army National Guard, earned a Miltiary Service Award, three commendations, the SWAT Service Award and other recognitions for his work.
