SANGAMON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Authorities say two people are under investigation after an attempted traffic stop turned into a crash.

About 2:30 pm, Tuesday, members of the sheriff’s Drug Interdiction and Response Team (DIRT) tried to pull over a suspect vehicle. The driver refused and sped off at a high rate of speed.

Deputies did not follow the vehicle, but issued an alert. Springfield police found the vehicle involved in a crash at Dirksen Parkway and South Grand Avenue.

Two people in the suspect vehicle, 21-year old Zariah Poe and 26-year old Andy Broyles, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle declined medical attention.

The State’s Attorney’s Office is investigating Poe and Broyles in connection with drug charges and the sheriff’s office is investigating the accident.
