MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — Two men face charges after an incident Thursday morning. Police responded to an alarm at Ideal Auto Sales, in the 1900-block of Lakeland Boulevard, about 3:20 am.

Authorities say 31-year old Laurence Thompson burglarized the business and stole a car.

A Coles County Sheriff’s deputy found the car near Hindsboro and gave chase before Thompson fled the vehicle on foot. He’s charged with burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and fleeing and eluding police.

Officials say 33-year old Mathew Cook was a passenger in the car and also fled the scene on foot, then lied to police during the course of the investigation.

He’s charged with obstructing justice and resisting a peace officer.
