EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WCIA) — Two men were arrested for burglarizing vehicles. Authorities say reports were taken Monday that two vehicles were targeted while parked in the 1900-block of South Banker.
A van had been burglarized overnight with DJ equipment and CD’s with a total value of $4,535 stolen. Multiple power tools, worth more than $1,400, were stolen from a work truck over the weekend.
Some tools were recovered immediately while the area was canvassed and a local church reported buying DJ equipment leaders believed was stolen. It was determined to be the stolen items from the burglarized vehicle.
Investigators discovered a church van had been used for storage of the stolen property and the missing power tools were found when the van was searched.
Richard Griffin, 47, and Michael Brown, 32, were taken into police custody about 6 pm, Monday. Griffin is charged with two counts each burglary and theft, class 3 and 4 felonies respectively. Brown is charged with possession of stolen property, a class 4 felony.
Officials say the swift arrests are directly credited to active citizen involvement reporting suspicious activity.
