CHAMPAIGN — Ebertfest is about to start. Film lovers worldwide are attending the big event.
People lined up early for the 7 pm showing of Hair. The director of the Virginia Theatre expects a full house. It can hold more than 1,400 people.
Wednesday is the first night of the five-day event. There are several screenings daily for film buffs to enjoy. After each, there will be time for discussion.
Two big names appearing at this year’s event are Norman Lear and Isabelle Huppert. Tickets are still available for some showings.
This is the 19th year for Ebertfest. It was founded by Pulitzer Prize-winning film critic, Roger Ebert. The festival is put on by the UI’s College of Media.
Chaz Ebert, Roger’s widow, is the festival’s co-founder, producer and host.
