15-year old sought in fatal shooting

Local News

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Thursday, police and the state’s attorney filed a petition in juvenile court regarding charges of involuntary manslaughter and unlawful use of a weapon for a 15-year old male’s involvement in the fatal shooting of 14-year old Elijha Booker.

About 1:30 am, Saturday, May 11, police responded to a home in the 1600-block of Hedge Road and found Elijha with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to the hospital where he died.

A 17-year old was also hit by the gunfire but was treated and released from the hospital. Authorities say the preliminary investigation suggests the 15-year old likely discharged the firearm inadvertently.

Investigators are searching for the teenager who has not been cooperative with authorities. A juvenile court warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Although charges have been filed, it is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact police who can arrange to speak privately with you.
