DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A 12-year old girl was shot, and whoever did it is still on the loose.
The shooting happened around 6:00 pm, Tuesday, near Main and Hilton. The girl was shot in the leg but is alive and returned home from the hospital the same night.
Police say there were people in a car arguing with other people in the street. That’s when gunshots were heard. The victim was walking on the sidewalk to see her friend when she was shot right outside the house at the end of the street.
Cerinity Gomiller found her lying outside her home.
She said, “My sister said she was on the phone with her. She said, ‘Oh, I got shot, I got shot,’ and was running so we saw the whole trail of blood coming down our sidewalk and I guess she couldn’t make it to the door. She fell in our yard and we went out there and heard her screaming.”
Police are still investigating. They don’t know yet if the girl was the target or if she was caught in the middle of the shooting.
