Leaders celebrated during Black History Month

News

ILLINOIS — African-American leaders were acknowledged for their achievements at the Capitol Wednesday.

Treasurer Michael Frerichs hosted the celebration for Black History Month. The event recognized African-American leaders’ accomplishments in their communities.

Eight people were awarded, including an Olympic gold medalist. She says the event gives people an opportunity to learn more about what people are doing on the ground level.

It’s the third year active leaders in the community were celebrated.
