CHAMPAIGN COUNTY — These Kids to Know have spent months helping others they’ve never even met.
Girl Scout Troop 2207 decided its Bronze Project should help children in Uganda. They collected old jeans from people in the community, then traced patterns and started cutting.
These pieces of denim will soon become shoes for children who don’t have them. People who don’t wear shoes there get jiggers in their feet. The insects burrow into the foot, making it difficult to walk.
The goal was to cut enough denim for 60-pairs of shoes. The girls have more than doubled that and will make 125.
