Illini fans disappointed in NIT bid

News

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS — The basketball team made it into the postseason, but not quite the way they hoped. They’ll be facing off on Tuesday against Valparaiso at home. That will be for the first round of the NIT. Illinois hasn’t been able to host the last couple years because of construction at the State Farm Center. Some students at the University of Illinois say the letters “NIT” don’t even ring a bell.

“It’s not the championship,” said Alex Rioprtoa. “It’s a second place bracket.”

“I think they could be doing a lot better,” said Alex Ion. “I know Illinois sports in general in the last few years haven’t been doing great, in terms of basketball or football.”

Some we talked with say it would be easier to be a fan if the teams were better. Others say they’re really looking forward to seeing the boys in orange and blue play at least one more time before the season ends.
