ILLINOIS — Recent gun sales in the state are at an all-time high. Some say they’re not surprised. Some people say they bought a gun for protection, but like most sellers say they’ve seen an increase in women shoppers.
Reports show Illinois State Police did about 400,000 background checks on those buying firearms in 2015. That’s twice the number of background checks from a decade ago.
Some say they never would have thought about buying a gun several years ago, but things have changed. Officials say the number of guns sold could be high because some transactions involve multiple guns.
Federal investigators say the number of guns sold nationally also increased.
