Governor vetoes MAP Grants

News

ILLINOIS — Governor Bruce Rauner said he was going to veto MAP Grants and he did. Democrats introduced their version to distribute more than $721 million for MAP Grants and community colleges.

The bill passed both chambers, but Rauner says the bill doesn’t provide any specifics for how the state would pay for the financial aid.

In his veto message, the governor says the proposal would add $721 million to the state’s budget deficit.
