CHAMPAIGN — The town’s own gold medalist is getting a little extra love from the city she’s made proud. Mayor Deb Feinen is declaring Tuesday Gold Medalist Nichole Millage Day.
It’s to honor Millage, a Paralympian who helped bring home the gold for the women’s national sitting volleyball team. The trip to Rio was Millage’s third Paralympic appearance. The first two ended in silver medals.
By day, Millage works for Champaign Public Works. She says this recognition makes her proud of the work she does on and off the court.
Millage is also a Champaign native. She lost part of her leg in a boating accident. Mayor Feinenewill read the declaration at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
