Father and son killed after 4-vehicle crash

VERMILLION COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup has released the name of a child who died Saturday morning after being involved in a car crash on October 9.

Wyatt Pope, 9, of Georgetown, died at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana at 8:46 a.m. from multiple traumatic injuries on October 12.

Wyatt was reported to be a passenger in a vehicle that struck two vehicles before crossing into oncoming traffic and colliding head-on with a third vehicle.

The crash occurred on Illinois Route 1 near Vermilion County 900 North.

Wyatt’s father, Tyler J. Pope, died on October 9 of his injuries at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville.

No autopsy will be performed however, an inquest may be held on a later date.

This death is being investigated by the Champaign County Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State Police District 10.

VERMILLION COUNTY, Ill (WCIA) — All lanes are now open and the scene has been cleared on Route one and Vermillion County 900 North Georgetown.

VERMILION COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — It’s expected to be hours before Route 1 reopens following a multi-vehicle accident. Four vehicles were involved in the incident near Vermilion County Road 900 North, near Georgetown, about 8 am, Wednesday.

Five people were in the vehicles and four were taken to area hospitals for injuries. No other information has been released. Original estimates were the road would not be reopened until 2 pm.
